Chattogram — still widely written and searched as Chittagong — is the country's second city, its principal seaport and the base for a great deal of its industry. Business travel here looks different from Dhaka: more port and EPZ movements, more site visits, more journeys that begin in the city and end somewhere on the coast or in the hills.
It is also the sensible arrival point for Cox's Bazar. Flying into Shah Amanat and driving south is considerably quicker and less punishing than the long haul down from Dhaka by road.
Shah Amanat International Airport
Shah Amanat (CGP) sits at Patenga, south of the city near the mouth of the Karnaphuli, roughly 15 km from the Agrabad commercial district. It handles domestic flights from Dhaka along with regional international services.
The most common booking here is not a city transfer at all — it is the onward run to Cox's Bazar, typically four to five hours down the coastal road. See Chattogram airport transfers.
Corporate and port transport
A large share of Chattogram work is business: visits to the port and the EPZ zones, factory and site inspections, and moving visiting staff between Agrabad, Khulshi and Nasirabad.
For repeat requirements we usually recommend a monthly vehicle rather than daily bookings — see corporate transport. For site work outside the city, an SUV is worth the difference.
Where people go from Chattogram
South to Cox's Bazar is the obvious run. East into the hill districts — Rangamati and Bandarban — is the more interesting one, and both need a capable vehicle and a driver who knows the hill roads.
Closer to the city, Patenga beach, Foy's Lake and the Chandranath hill temple at Sitakunda are all comfortable half-day trips.
The city's shape, and what it does to journey times
Chattogram is long, hilly and organised around a working port, which makes distance an unreliable guide to time here in a different way from Dhaka. The city stretches for miles along the coast, and the climbs and cuttings between Khulshi, Nasirabad and the older districts mean a short hop on a map can be a slow one in practice.
The port is the other factor. Container traffic on the Port Connecting Road and the approaches to the EPZ areas builds through the working day and does not behave like ordinary city congestion — it moves in surges as ships are worked.
In practice: give us the appointment time rather than the departure time, and tell us which side of the city you are starting from. Agrabad to the airport at eight in the morning and the same run at two in the afternoon are different journeys.

- Cox's Bazar
- Roughly 150 km south, typically four to five hours by road. The standard onward journey from Shah Amanat.
- Rangamati
- About 75 km east into the hill tracts, around two to three hours. Kaptai Lake is the draw.
- Bandarban
- Further into the hills and a longer day. Roads are good in parts and demanding in others — an SUV is the right choice.
- Sitakunda and Chandranath
- Around 35 km north, an easy half day with a steep climb at the end for those who want it.
- Patenga Beach and the Karnaphuli tunnel
- A short run south of the city, often combined with an airport drop.

Is it better to fly to Chattogram or Cox's Bazar for the beach?
Cox's Bazar has its own airport, so flying direct is quickest if a suitable flight exists. Many travellers still route via Chattogram for schedule reasons and take the coastal drive south.
Do you cover the hill districts?
Rangamati and Bandarban are arranged on request with an appropriate vehicle. Tell us your destination when you enquire, as some hill areas require permissions and advance planning.
How long does it take to cross Chattogram by car?
It depends far more on the port traffic and which districts you are crossing between than on the distance. Give us the appointment time and the starting area and we will work the departure backwards from it rather than quoting an optimistic figure.
