Planning wedding transport in Bangladesh

The main car is the easy part. Here is how to plan transport across every event, move guests reliably, and avoid the problems that show up on the night rather than in the plan.

Start with the schedule, not the cars

A Bangladeshi wedding is not one event. There is the gaye holud, often on separate days for each family; the akht; the wedding itself; and the bou bhat afterwards. Each has its own venue, its own timing and its own transport requirement.

Write out every event with its venue, start time and who needs to be there. That document is what a transport provider actually needs — far more than a request for a nice car.

The main car

Traditionally a Premium Saloon — the Premio and Allion class — dressed with flowers and ribbon. A Executive 4x4 is the usual alternative, and increasingly popular where the venue involves rural roads or the couple wants more presence.

Book this earliest. In wedding season the good vehicles go weeks ahead, and this is the one booking that cannot be substituted at short notice without everyone noticing.

Guest transport is where weddings go wrong

Families consistently plan the couple's car in detail and leave everyone else to sort themselves out. Then twenty guests need moving from a hotel to a community centre at the same moment, elderly relatives need collecting from three addresses, and half the party arrives forty minutes late.

Plan it. A microbus or minibus running a fixed shuttle between two points across an evening is inexpensive relative to the rest of a wedding budget and removes an entire category of stress.

See event and group transport for how multi-vehicle bookings are coordinated.

Things that catch people out

Waiting time
Wedding vehicles spend hours waiting. Make sure that is in the quote rather than discovered afterwards.
Venue access
Some venues cannot take a large vehicle to the door. Establish drop-off points in advance.
Photography
If the photographer needs to travel ahead of the couple, that is a separate vehicle. It is routinely forgotten.
The end of the night
Departures are always later and messier than planned. Book the return leg with margin.
Elderly guests
An MPV with sliding doors and a low floor is far easier than a saloon. Assign it deliberately.

Dressing the car

Floral dressing is arranged locally and to your colour scheme. Tell the provider the palette, the venue and which event the car is presenting at.

It needs to be done before the car presents, not on arrival, which means the vehicle is committed for a period beforehand. Factor that into the schedule.

Arranging a wedding from abroad

Very common, and transport is one of the more straightforward elements to handle remotely. Send the schedule, agree the vehicles and the total, and let the provider coordinate with the family in Bangladesh for the on-the-day detail.

The key is that one person abroad holds the booking and one person locally holds the day. Trying to run it by phone from Britain on the night is how details get lost. See booking from the UK.

When to book

Wedding season in Bangladesh concentrates heavily in the cooler months, and vehicles — particularly the well-presented ones — book out. Six to eight weeks ahead is comfortable. Two weeks is optimistic. The week before is a lottery.

If your dates are fixed, book as soon as the venue is confirmed.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

Which car is traditional for a Bangladeshi wedding?

The Toyota Premio and Allion class of premium saloon is the most commonly requested main wedding car, dressed with flowers. An SUV is the usual alternative for presence or rural venues.

How far in advance should I book wedding cars in Bangladesh?

Six to eight weeks is comfortable, particularly in the cooler wedding season when well-presented vehicles book out early.

Should I arrange transport for guests as well?

Yes. Guest transport is the part most families underestimate, and a fixed shuttle between hotel and venue is inexpensive relative to the rest of a wedding budget.

Can wedding transport be booked from the UK?

Yes, and it is common. Send the full schedule, agree vehicles and total in advance, and let the provider coordinate the day with the family locally.
