Be realistic about the day
This is the longest journey we regularly run and it should be planned properly rather than optimistically. Nine hours is a very good run. Twelve is entirely possible, particularly around Chakaria and on holiday weekends.
With small children or older relatives, we will usually suggest breaking it overnight in Chattogram, or flying one leg and driving the other. It is not the bigger booking, but it is the better trip.
When driving the whole way makes sense
When you have a group and a lot of luggage, when you want to stop along the way, or when flights do not fit the schedule. Door to door with no baggage handling in the middle is a real advantage for a family of eight.
A microbus or Grand Cabin makes this journey far more bearable than a car.
Departure timing
Leave very early — 05:00 to 06:00 if possible. The Dhaka exit and the Cumilla stretch are both considerably easier before the day builds, and an early start is the difference between arriving for dinner and arriving at midnight.
Splitting it over two days
For families with children or elderly relatives, the sensible version of this journey is not a single push. It is Dhaka to Chattogram on the first day — five to seven hours, ending somewhere with a proper night's sleep — and the remaining four to five hours down the coast the following morning.
It costs a night's accommodation and buys back the entire second half of the journey, which is otherwise driven by people who ran out of patience four hours ago. It also puts you on the coast road in daylight rather than arriving at the hotel in the dark.
The same vehicle and driver stay with you across both days. Tell us at booking if that is the plan, because it changes how the driver's own rest is arranged as well — which is not a detail worth improvising on a nine-hour road journey.
